Help & FAQ
AudioShelf helps you find and compare open audiobook recordings for public-domain works. You can browse and listen without an account; Save asks you to create a free account first. Public-domain titles are often free at LibriVox, Archive, and Gutenberg—contact legal@audioshelf.org or privacy@audioshelf.org for help.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. Listening and browsing work without signup. Saved titles stay on this device for now.
Why is a recording missing?
Not every title has a playable Archive track cache yet. The source links still open the recording where it lives.
Can I get these free elsewhere?
Yes. Public-domain titles are often already free at LibriVox, Internet Archive, and Project Gutenberg. AudioShelf helps you compare recordings, listen in one place when possible, and keep source context—not exclusive access to the book.
Is AudioShelf for children?
AudioShelf markets to parents, teachers, and adult listeners—not to children under 13. The full catalog is not child-safe: classics may include mature themes. Adults should preview titles and supervise minors.
Can I download files here?
Not yet. AudioShelf streams when possible and otherwise deep-links to the provider. Downloads remain on those sites.
Parents & educators
audioshelf is a finding aid for public-domain audiobooks — not a social network or child-directed service. Titles are classic literature and nonfiction; parents and teachers can preview any book page before sharing a link. No account is required to browse or listen when a recording is available.
For homeschool and classical-education reading, browse by genre, assign a book page directly, or compare services on Compare. Many titles offer multiple volunteer recordings — useful when you want a shorter edition or a different narrator for family read-alouds.
For classroom use, link directly to a book page or genre shelf. Report concerns vialegal@audioshelf.org.
